When a cooker hood hasn't been properly cleaned for a long time, grease stops being a film and becomes a hard, varnish-like layer. It sits in the corners of the canopy, around the filter frames and inside the chimney, and it often starts dripping back onto the hob. A deep clean is designed for exactly this.
What's included
- Hardened, varnish-like grease softened and lifted
- Canopy corners, seams and filter frames detailed
- Inner panels removed where the hood allows
- Fan housing and impeller degreased
- Chimney joints and the top of the chimney cleaned
- Filters cleaned or flagged for replacement
- Wall and tiles directly behind the hood wiped down
- Stainless or glass finished and the hood tested
When grease turns to varnish
We give the degreaser time to work on the toughest areas: the canopy lip, the filter channel, the light housings and the joint between the chimney and the canopy. Stubborn deposits are lifted with non-scratch tools rather than scraped, so the finish underneath isn't damaged.
What we strip back
Deep cleans are popular before selling a house, at the end of a tenancy, when moving into a new home, or when a hood has simply been forgotten. We also see many hoods where the filters were regularly replaced but the housing behind them was never cleaned.
End of tenancy and house moves
If the grease has travelled beyond the hood into the ducting, we'll recommend cleaning that as well. Otherwise warm air will carry grease back down into the freshly cleaned canopy.
How the visit works
01
Assess the build-up
We check how hard the grease is, what finish the hood has and which panels can come off safely.
02
Soften the grease
A hot degreaser is left to dwell on the canopy, seams and filters so the grease releases without scraping the finish.
03
Strip and detail
Corners, joints, frames and the fan housing are worked one section at a time until the metal is clean.
04
Finish and check
The hood is rinsed, dried, finished and tested, and we point out any staining that is permanent.
Common problems we fix
Cooker hood dripping grease onto the hob
Dripping means the canopy edge and filter channel are saturated. A deep clean removes the build-up; if the duct above is also heavily greased, that needs cleaning too.
End of tenancy cooker hood cleaning
Letting agents and inventory clerks check the hood and filters closely. A deep clean returns the hood to a clean, grease-free condition for check-out.
Yellow or brown stains on the cooker hood
Most yellowing is grease and comes off with a deep clean. Heat discolouration on some plastics and lacquers is permanent, and we'll point out the difference.
What affects the price
A deep clean takes longer than a standard clean, so the price depends mainly on how thick and hard the grease is, the size of the hood, whether inner panels and the fan can be removed and whether the filters can be saved. Close-up photos of the filters and canopy corners help us judge it.

Once a hood has reached this stage, household sprays tend to smear the grease rather than lift it, and scourers will mark stainless steel. After a deep clean, a monthly filter wash and a weekly wipe of the canopy edge will stop it getting back to this point.
Questions about Cooker Hood Deep Cleaning
If the canopy is sticky, the filters are dark brown or grease is dripping, book a deep clean. If the hood was cleaned in the last few months and is just dusty or lightly greasy, a standard clean is enough.
Usually two to three hours for a domestic hood, longer for island hoods and tall chimneys.
Often, yes. Many hoods that seem to have failed are simply clogged. If the motor or controls are faulty, we'll tell you before you spend more on it.
Yes. We use kitchen-safe degreasers and non-abrasive tools, and finish the steel along the grain.
