Integrated hoods are designed to disappear into the kitchen units, which also means the grease is easy to forget. Telescopic visors gum up on their rails, canopy inserts coat the cabinet above them, and the space behind the unit becomes a hidden shelf of grease that eventually makes the cupboard doors sticky.
What's included
- Visor pulled out and rails degreased
- Filters cleaned in a hot soak
- Insert housing and underside cleaned
- Cabinet void around the hood wiped where reachable
- Downdraft intake and plinth fan cleaned
- Painted and wood doors protected while we work
- Charcoal filters checked and replaced on recirculating units
Visors, inserts and housings
We pull out the visor, remove the filters and clean the insert, the rails and the underside of the housing. We also clean the cabinet space around the hood as far as it can be reached without removing units.
Downdraft extractors
Downdraft extractors, which rise out of the worktop behind the hob, collect grease and crumbs in the intake and in the fan housing in the plinth. They need a different approach, so let us know if you have one when you ask for a quote.
Why clean filters matter more here
Integrated hoods often have smaller motors than chimney hoods, so clean filters make a bigger difference to how well they extract.
How the visit works
01
Open and protect
Cabinet doors are opened and protected, and the worktop and hob covered.
02
Visor and filters
The visor is extended, filters removed to soak, and the rails degreased so the visor slides freely.
03
Housing and cabinet
The insert housing and surrounding cabinet space are cleaned as far as we can reach.
04
Refit and test
Filters go back in and we check the visor movement, lights and every fan speed.
Common problems we fix
Telescopic cooker hood visor sticking
Grease on the rails makes the visor stiff. Degreasing the rails and housing usually frees it up.
Smell from cupboard above cooker hood
Grease and moisture collect in the cabinet around an integrated hood. Cleaning the hood and the surrounding cabinet space removes the source.
Downdraft extractor cleaning
Downdraft hoods need their intake, filters and plinth fan cleaned. Access is through the worktop and the kitchen plinth.
What affects the price
Integrated hood cleaning depends on the type of unit, how much of the surrounding cabinet needs cleaning, whether it is a downdraft model with a plinth fan and whether the carbon filters need replacing. Photos of the hood with the visor out and the cabinet above it are useful.
Send photos for a written quoteWhat you can do yourself
Pull the visor out and wipe the rails every few weeks, and clean the filters monthly. If the cupboard above the hood feels tacky, grease is escaping round the insert, and a full clean of the housing will stop it spreading to the doors.
Questions about Integrated Canopy Hood Cleaning
Rarely. Most integrated hoods can be cleaned with the cabinet doors open. Painted and wood doors are protected while we work.
Yes. We clean the insert and the filters from below and the inside of the surround as far as it can be reached.
Over time, yes. Grease and heat can cause swelling and peeling on MDF and vinyl-wrapped doors. Regular hood cleaning helps prevent it.
Many do, especially in flats. If yours does, we check and replace the charcoal filters during the clean.
