An island hood hangs in the middle of the room, so grease settles on all four sides of the chimney, not just the front. Many have glass canopies that show every streak, and the height means the top of the chimney is rarely reached during normal cleaning. In open-plan kitchens, a greasy island hood is hard to ignore.
What's included
- Grease filters cleaned in a hot soak
- Canopy underside and filter channels degreased
- All four sides of the chimney cleaned to the ceiling
- Glass panels cleaned without scratching printed logos
- Lights and controls wiped
- Recirculation vents cleared and charcoal filters replaced
- Ceiling fixings and chimney sections checked for rattles
Four sides and full height
We clean the grease filters, canopy underside, glass panels, lighting and every face of the chimney using proper access equipment. Ceiling fixings and decorative chimney sections are checked so nothing is left loose or rattling.
Recirculating island hoods
Many island hoods recirculate air because ducting through the ceiling is difficult. Recirculating island hoods push air back out through vents near the top of the chimney, and those vents clog and drip if the charcoal filters are saturated. We clean the vents and replace the carbon filters as part of the visit.
Ceiling extractors
Ceiling extractors, which sit flush with the ceiling above the island, are cleaned the same way: filters, housing and fan where accessible.
How the visit works
01
Set up access
Steps or a platform go in place and the island worktop and hob are covered.
02
Filters and canopy
Filters come out to soak while the canopy and glass are degreased from below.
03
Chimney to the ceiling
Every face of the chimney is cleaned up to the ceiling plate, along with any recirculation vents.
04
Refit and test
Filters and fresh carbon go back in, fixings are checked and the hood is run on every speed.
Common problems we fix
Island hood not catching steam
Island hoods are more affected by draughts than wall hoods, so blocked filters make capture noticeably worse. A full clean restores the suction the hood was designed for.
How do you reach a high island hood?
With proper steps or a platform, not a kitchen chair. Let us know the ceiling height so we bring the right equipment.
Grease dripping from island hood chimney
On recirculating models this usually comes from clogged vents and saturated charcoal filters at the top of the chimney.
What affects the price
Island hoods are priced on the canopy size, the height of the ceiling, the amount of glass, whether the hood recirculates and how much grease has built up. Tell us the ceiling height and the hood model if you know it.
Send photos for a written quoteWhat you can do yourself
Clean the filters monthly and wipe the glass canopy with a microfibre cloth and a little washing-up liquid. Avoid standing on worktops or chairs to reach the top of the chimney; that part is best left to a visit with proper access equipment.
Questions about Island Cooker Hood Cleaning
Yes. We use non-abrasive cleaners that won't scratch the glass or damage printed logos.
Yes. Ceiling-mounted extractors get the same filter, housing and fan clean as an island hood.
It takes longer because there are four sides, more glass and more height, but the cleaning process is the same.
Only if they recirculate. Ducted island hoods vent through the ceiling and don't need carbon filters.
